The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Arkansas plans to convert a former Kraft cheese plant into a satellite for contemporary art. The 63,000 sq. ft space, due to open in downtown Bentonville in 2018, will serve as an edgier outpost to the museum established in 2011 by Alice Walton, the daughter of Walmart founder Sam. Steuart and Tom Walton, Sam’s grandsons, are leading the project with funds from the Walton Family Foundation. Officials from the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA) will help develop the programme, which will include performance and artist residencies.
