The talk of the fair—Still Life with Xitle and Spirit (2007), Jimmie Durham’s Dodge Spirit with volcanic boulder—wins our prize for the most challenging installation. The work came from Mexico, and the staff of Peter Freeman (B4) had a rude awakening just before Thanksgiving, when they learned that it weighed nine and a half tons rather than seven. “We needed a new crane,” says the gallery’s Jayne Johnson. On hold for an East Coast museum, the work probably won’t be heading south again.
