The mayor of Boston, Massachusetts, wants to make the city one of the most arts-friendly places in the US. Martin Walsh, who took office in 2014, has launched an 18-month, $1.4m survey of the city’s arts groups. The results will shape Boston’s new cultural agenda, which is due to be published in June 2016. “There are a lot of individual cultural plans in the city, but there’s no one plan that helps to move the arts and culture community forward as a whole,” he told the Boston Globe. Walsh has also proposed a 33% increase in the cultural budget and has added an arts and culture chief to his cabinet.
