Rauschenberg inspires tomorrow’s curators

The Rauschenberg Foundation is teaming up with the website Artsy to launch, on 22 September, a competition for aspiring curators. International graduate and undergraduate students are invited to develop an exhibition proposal inspired by the work of Robert Rauschenberg. A panel of high-profile judges, including the curator John Elderfield and the artist Shirin Neshat, are due to select the top submissions. The winner, to be determined by an online public vote, will have the opportunity to organise an exhibition at his or her university with works borrowed from the foundation’s collection. The winning proposal will also result in a virtual exhibition on Artsy’s website. The goal of the contest is to “inspire new research and ideas from students who might otherwise have limited access to Rauschenberg’s works”, says Christy MacLear, the foundation’s director, in a statement.
