A public row between a Russian dealer and an art critic has broken out following the record-breaking sale of a Chubarov painting at Sotheby’s in London on 15 February. Untitled 1992, by Evgeny Chubarov, sold to a Russian buyer for £288,000 ($565,632). It was the sale’s top lot and went for almost five times its estimate. Art critic, Milena Orlova of the Moscow daily newspaper Kommersant, claims that Gary Tatintsian, a top Moscow art dealer, had forced the price up. Mr Tatintsian has adamantly denied these charges to The Art Newspaper.
