Rain causes Bacon alert at Tate

“Two figures lying on a bed with attendants” removed

A Bacon triptych on loan from Iran had to be taken off show at Tate Britain on 17 August, after water seeped into the gallery from a roof gutter during heavy rain. “Two figures lying on a bed with attendants” is on loan from Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art until the autumn. The Tate’s own “Portrait of Isabel Rawsthorne” also had to be temporarily removed from room 24 in the Millbank gallery. A Tate spokesman told The Art Newspaper: “Due to heavy rain, there was a small leak in the Bacon display. As a precautionary measure, two works were removed. None were damaged and the two pictures will go back once we are confident that the problem has been resolved”.
