Modigliani, "Portrait of Maud Abrantés", about 1908. Conté crayon and watercolour, 41 x 32 cm. One of the 430 unknown drawings by Modigliani whose existence we revealed in the January issue of The Art Newspaper. These have now gone on display at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice until 4 January 1994. A catalogue raisonné and account by Noël Alexandre, the son of the original collector and close friend of Modigliani, Paul Alexandre, of his father's memories of the artist is published by Umberto Allemandi, Turin: "Modigliani, testimonianze, documenti e disegni provenienti e presentati da Noël Alexandre". The exhibition moves to the Royal Academy, London, 14 January-4 April 1994 and then tours further.
