That banana just won’t go away…. during the Superbowl on Sunday (9 February), an ad for Ray-Ban Meta Glasses took a cheeky swipe at Maurizio Cattelan’s ubiquitous Comedian work which has hogged headline since its debut at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2019.

The ad shows Marvel actors Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt in the home of reality TV star Kris Jenner, who has a banana taped to her wall. Pratt uses the glasses (priced between $299 and $379), to identify that it is (actually) a piece of art. Hemsworth, who is not wearing the smart glasses, starts eating the banana. “That’s a $6.2m banana,” Pratt says in shock when he sees Hemsworth scoffing the fruit. Jenner then pops up, declaring “Who eats art?” before telling Meta to call her lawyer. Jenner’s “mansion” also appears to house other works by Damien Hirst and Cecily Brown.
