New works by Derrick Adams, inspired by window displays in beauty shops, have been unveiled by Gagosian in Seoul, marking both the gallery and Adams’s first show in South Korea.

Derrick Adams: The Strip (3 September-12 October) takes place inside the HQ of the beauty brand Amorepacific. The paintings show mannequin heads wearing colourful wigs, surrounded by bricks, pavements and other nods to city life.

“He’s never had an exhibition in Korea and we thought it would be unexpected,” Gagosian’s Nick Simunovic told The Art Newspaper. Gagosian has operated in Asia for many years. Simunovic says its aim “is to provide our artists—the lifeblood of the gallery—with a platform to be seen and appreciated in Asia. This exhibition is in keeping with the strategy we initiated 17 years ago.”
