The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is always “getting down with the kids” so to speak, so its latest cunning plan to tap into cultural trends today—announcing the appointment of five “superfans”—comes as no surprise. The venerable V&A is currently recruiting “five superfan advisors to help us learn more about our collection at the V&A as well as the current cultural trends that will inform the future of museum collecting”, says a series of ads on its jobs page. So which areas is the V&A keen to delve into? Drum roll…. Emojis, Crocs, Drag, Tufting and Taylor Swift.
If you’re a Swiftie or a top Tufter (a trendy textile technique), then get the CVs in the post. Successful candidates will meet curatorial experts at the V&A and have the chance to go behind the scenes at the museum to view relevant items from the collection. “The V&A will cover reasonable travel costs to the museum for the curatorial meeting, and successful candidates will receive a V&A membership as part of the role,” adds the advertisement. Don’t be an Anti-Hero and just go Shake It Up.
