Another day, another diary entry about one of our favourite artists, Yayoi Kusama… the nonagenarian Japanese artist has issued a heartwarming new message to coincide with a show of new works at David Zwirner gallery in New York next month (I Spend Each Day Embracing Flowers, 11 May-17 June). The exhibition, says the gallery, will feature new paintings and sculptures elaborating on her signature motifs of pumpkins and flowers along with a crowdpleasing new Infinity Mirror Room (incidentally, the exhibition is named after three monumental flower sculptures which will fill the Zwirner space on 519 West 19th Street). The new Infinity Mirror installation, Dreaming of Earth’s Sphericity, I Would Offer My Love (2023), features round-coloured windows. “These openings let in a dance of natural and artificial light alongside the interplay of bodies that activate the immersive space,” adds a gallery statement. The artist issued “a poem of hope for the world” during the Covid epidemic. Here’s Yayoi’s words of wisdom about the forthcoming show (enjoy):

I’ve Sung the Mind of Kusama Day by Day, a Song from the Heart.
