The functioning ATM on show at Art Basel in Miami Beach, which publicly displays the balance of the bank accounts of people who use it, may remain on long-term view in Miami. Becoming, as intended, a bit of a game for bragging rights, ATM Leaderboard by the Brooklyn-based collective MSCHF has drawn crowds this week to Emmanuel Perrotin’s stand. A spokesperson for the gallery says that the piece “sold for $75,000 to a local collector who plans to place it in a public setting where people can continue to interact with the work”.

When a fair visitor requests a balance, the machine records the figure and takes a picture of the person who inserted their card. The leaderboard above the ATM then displays the figure. At press time, the top “scorer” since Tuesday’s VIP preview—a bearded man in a pink T-shirt who has so far remained unidentified, despite our best journalistic efforts—has a balance of $2.9m. The second highest individual has a balance totalling more than $333,000; the last entry has $0.00.

UPDATE: The DJ Diplo has taken the top spot on the ATM leaderboard with a bank balance of £3,004,913.06
