Art heists always make people prick up their ears but a robbery of precious gems and antiques in the UK last week has an added royal twist. The Sun newspaper reports that a haul of items worth around £150,000 was taken from the set of the hit Netflix show, The Crown. “Among 200 nicked props is a pricey replica of a Russian Fabergé Egg bought by the Queen’s grandfather,” says The Sun. Along with the egg reproduction, the thieves also took candelabras, a grandfather clock and silverware from three lorries parked near Doncaster, UK, before scenes were filmed between the Queen, played by Imelda Staunton, and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip. “Producers are frantically trying to findreplacements. But given so many were unique, it won’t be easy,” a “TV insider” said. South Yorkshire Police said officers were investigating the incident while antique dealers were told to look out for the dodgy objects.
