Usually when a high-profile politician's love letters are made public, scandal is quick to follow. But for a wholesome change, New Zealand's prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, has designed a Valentine's Day card that is being auctioned to raise funds for a theatre in the capital Wellington.
The politician, who at 41 is the world's second-youngest female national leader, was reportedly very enthusiastic to contribute to the fundraising auction of BATS Theatre of bespoke Valentine's Day cards designed by prominent Kiwis. Funds from the sale will go towards keeping BATS Theatre's tickets at an affordable price, allowing all members of the Wellington community to engage with the performing arts.
Ardern's card, which reads "All You Need Is Love (and BATS)", measures 25cm by 35cm and includes the prime minister's signature. The lot had reached NZD 610 (£297) from 16 bids by the time of publication.
When the sale commences on 21 February one lucky bidder will be able to hang up an original Adern. Famous politicans who have had also had artistic careers include former US president George Bush and former UK prime miniser Winston Churchill.
