Lehmann Maupin announced today a summer popup in Taipei’s Da An district, opening 26 June and running through mid-August. The premier exhibition will feature works by Tony Oursler, the subject of a 2021 retrospective at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and Erwin Wurm, who last year had a solo exhibition at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, among others.

Shasha Tittmann, the director of Lehmann Maupin Hong Kong, will be overseeing the gallery’s space in Taipei. “Local collectors in Taipei have amassed some of the most-impressive collections I’ve ever encountered, drive a large portion of the art market in Asia via auctions and private sales and are very active in the international scene," she says. "In a time where travel is not possible, our approach is to bring our international and multidisciplinary program directly to them."

The gallery has a strong presence in Asia, with physical spaces in Hong Kong and Seoul, and staff based in Shanghai and Beijing.

“When I think about Taipei, I think about its highly sophisticated, informed, and motivated collectors who come from a long history of arts patronage,” says the gallery's co-founder Rachel Lehmann, “David [Maupin] and I hope to introduce our artists to this established scene and open up a new dialogue and creative exchange.”
