The mischief-making Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan—who famously taped a banana to the wall of Emmanuel Perrotin’s booth at Art Basel Miami Beach—has rolled out the red carpet for his latest project: the ultra-glitzy cover of Vanity Fair’s anticipated annual Hollywood cover, now in its 27th year. The technicolour fold-out features The Greatest Showman star Zendaya, Michael B. Jordan, Charlize Theron, Sacha Baron Cohen ("Borat"), and “eight other visionaries” shaping film and TV today (we love Michaela Coel, writer of I May Destroy You, and Dan Levy, the lovable star of the smash hit sitcom Schitt’s Creek; Awkwafina, aka Nora from Queens also shines, lugging the O from Hollywood). According to the Times newspaper, Cattelan and fellow photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari directed ten separate surrealist photo shoots across four continents from their base in Costa Rica, "using techniques that minimised on-set personnel and maximised digital trickery". Zendaya tweeted: “Very lucky to be amongst these absolutely brilliant people on this very special 27th Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue.” Levy quipped on Instagram meanwhile that he is "fucking delighted" to be included.
