When it comes to this Spanish psychic, Salvador Dalí is not the father

In what would have made for an excellent supernatural episode of The Maury Povich Show, Salvador Dalí has been declared “not the father” of a Spanish psychic who claimed she was his long-lost daughter. This week, a Madrid court dismissed an appeal from Pilar Abel, a tarot card reader and astrologer based in Girona, who believes the Surrealist painter is her biological dad. Abel first filed the paternity suit in 2015, remarkably winning the right to exhume the artist’s body for bone and hair samples for a DNA test. When the court ruled that there was no relation, Abel filed an appeal calling into question how his remains were handled, suing the Spanish state as well as the artist’s foundation in the process. Now, the court says she must pay for the cost of disinterring the body, which is estimated to be around €7,000, according to Artnet News. Despite the ruling against her, Abel maintains Dalí is her dad, alleging that her mother told had an affair with the artist in 1955 while she worked in Cadaqués, where the Dalí family also had a residence. The mystic is entitled to re-appeal within 20 days, but for now the scales of the (perhaps Dalí-designed) tarot deck’s Justice card are weighted against her.
