In a bid to support those working on the front line of coronavirus (Covid-19) in France, the Parisian auction house Piasa is launching an online charity sale of contemporary art and design this evening in aid of the #ProtegeTonSoignant (Protect Your Caregiver) initiative.
All proceeds will go towards buying much-needed personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves for doctors, nurses and other caregivers alongside aiding the purchase of crucial medical equipment such as respirators. Money will also go towards buying basic essentials such as food, microwaves and coffee machines for the caregivers.
The sale has been spearheaded by the art collector and real estate entrepreneur Laurent Dumas, Piasa's president who is also involved with the #protègetonsoignantalongside collective, which includes medics, entrepreneurs and artists, all committed to helping healthcare workers who are fighting the coronavirus crisis but struggling to receive much-needed equipment and supplies.
The sale of more than 360 lots of paintings, works on paper, photographs, furniture and design pieces will run from 6pm French time this evening (3 April) until Sunday night (5 April). Items have been donated by artists, designers and galleries including Kamel Mennour, Levy Gorvy, Almine Rech, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac and Galerie Eric Dupont. Included are works by Tatiana Trouvé, Jeff Koons, Pierre et Gilles, Birger Kaipiainen, Charlotte Perriand and Andrés Segovia.
