The residents of Miami Beach have voted to acquire a new work for the city at Art Basel in Miami Beach by Ebony G. Patterson. The Jamaican artist’s piece ...as the garden secretes a swarm of monarchs feast... (2019) on Chicago’s Monique Meloche gallery was acquired through a new initiative called the Legacy Purchase programme. Earlier in the week, the city’s Art in Public Places committee shortlisted works by three artists on show in the fair’s Nova and Positions sectors: the others are Didier William (James Fuentes) and Amoako Boafo (Mariane Ibrahim gallery). City officials have also decided to purchase Boafo’s work Cobalt Blue Earring (2019).
