Some of Cher’s most outlandish outfits will go on show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this spring as part of the Camp: Notes on Fashion show (9 May-8 September), the latest fashion extravaganza organised by the museum’s Costume Institute. The star of Mamma Mia 2 and Moonstruck will show some of her most glamorous garments at the venerable New York institution according to the fashion designer Bob Mackie, who told Fashionista magazine that items from his Cher clothing archive are Met bound. Mackie worked on the 1970s TV show The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and is also the costume designer for The Cher Show currently running on Broadway. We pray the Met curators will plump for the beaded gown and headdress worn by the star to the Oscars in 1986 (museum officials did not respond immediately regarding our Cher query).
