As exhibition ticket costs rise and rise, London’s Hayward Gallery is bucking the trend—for one day only. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its grand opening on 9 July 1968, the Hayward is slashing admission fees to its Lee Bul: Crashing exhibition to just 50p for all visitors on 11 July (a £14 saving on the standard adult price). More birthday price crashes are in store for mid-week visitors, as Southbank Centre membership will be available for £50 instead of £75, and a selection of books from Hayward Gallery Publishing will have 50% off. Shoppers who spend more than £50 will be rewarded with a free birthday tote bag too. And for those who can tear themselves away from England’s momentous World Cup semi-final tomorrow night, the gallery is extending opening hours to 9pm. One sure-fire way to avoid the crowds.
