Deutsche Bank has set an opening date of 27 September for its new cultural forum, located in an historic building in central Berlin and to be called Palais Populaire.

The bank said in a statement that Svenja von Reichenbach, who has been responsible for Deutsche Bank’s exhibitions since 1997, will serve as director of the new centre, which will host exhibitions, concerts, readings, talks, workshops, sporting events and a cafe.

“We view ourselves an open house that thrives on impulses from its visitors,” Von Reichenbach says.

The first exhibition at the Palais Populaire, The World on Paper, will show around 300 works from the Deutsche Bank corporate collection, which is one of the largest in the world. The collection is focussed on works on paper and comprises more than 50,000 pieces.

With more than 750 sq. m of exhibition space, the Palais Populaire is located in the Prinzessinnenpalais at 5 Unter den Linden, the boulevard leading up to the Brandenburg Gate.

Deutsche Bank is a major sponsor of contemporary art, focussing on emerging artists by supporting museums and fairs, awarding its own art prize and publishing an art magazine.
