The Outsider Art Fair has cancelled its inaugural Basel edition. The fair was due to coincide with the 2018 edition of Art Basel and run one day longer than the main fair from 13-17 June at the nearby Hotel Pullman. The New York-based Art Brut dealer and fair organiser Andrew Edlin, who acquired the fair in 2012, said in a statement that “while our cultural footprint is significant, we are still a modest-sized company that needs to be mindful of the size and speed of its growth” and that it aims to strengthen the programming of the 2019 iteration of the Paris and New York editions of the fair. Edlin adds that “we’re sorry to disappoint our committed dealers and art lovers who were excited about Basel, [but] to them we say—we’re on our way, see you in Paris!”
