Tiny anatomic particles will be made visible—and audible—in a new commission at Art Basel in Switzerland this summer (14-17 June). Halo, a large-scale cylinder within a darkroom, is the work of Semiconductor, the UK artists Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt, and is the fair’s fourth Audemars Piguet Art Commission, sponsored by the Swiss watchmaker. The immersive installation uses data that the artists collected during their residency at Cern, the particle physics centre in Geneva. “By accessing the metadata, the artists have been able to access the time sequences and slow them down to enter into the realm of human perception,” says Monica Bello, the head of arts at Cern, who collaborated on the commission.
