Leila Alaoui's portraits go to Paris and Marrakech

Before her death in 2016, following a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso, the 33-year-old French-Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui travelled across Morocco with a portable photographic studio. The purpose of her cross-country odyssey was to build a record of the people: Les Marocains (the Moroccans, 2010-14). Two works from the series are on show at Art Dubai with Galleria Continua—Montagne du Rif and Souk de Boumia, Moyen-Atlas (both 2011, priced at €8,000 each). Christine Alaoui, the artist’s mother and the president of the foundation set up to preserve her work, says that the series is due to go on display at the Philharmonie de Paris (6 April-22 August) and the Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakech in the autumn.
