Montblanc Cultural Foundation hands out its coveted commissions

The Montblanc Cultural Foundation has announced the recipients of its prestigious Artist Commission Programme, the annual prize backed by the eponymous German luxury brand which enables artists to produce new works for an exhibition, biennial or festival. The work of Nigerian-born Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze will be presented at the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo which launches in September; US artist Mercedes Dorame’s commission will be seen at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles later this year, while the new work created by French artist Emmanuelle Lainé will be presented in the HENI Project Space at London’s Hayward Gallery this autumn. The works will eventually join the Hamburg-based Montblanc art collection which includes pieces by Sylvie Fleury and Thomas Ruff, among others. The chairmen of the Montblanc cultural foundation, Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, say: “The selection acknowledges the work of three incredibly talented artists who, each in her own way, have been pushing the formal boundaries of their respective disciplines.” The dapper pair are curators and co-founders of Art Reoriented.
