Much like it tops our visitor figures list each year, Paris’s Louvre Museum has been named as the Most Instagrammed Museum in the world by the social media platform in its 2017 Year in Review data crunch. Those 7.4 million visitors snapping a selfie with the Mona Lisa must add up, since the French museum beat out New York’s Metropolitan Museum (#2) and MoMA (#3), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (#4)—and even LA’s iteration of the Museum of Ice Cream (#10), the roving pop-up destination that has taken Instagram by storm since it started in New York in 2016. Among the other data discoveries is that #art was the 5th most popular hashtag used, beat out by #love and #fashion in the top slots. (Note to the Costume Institute: start planning for Valentine’s Day.) And the most liked photo on Instagram last year? That prize goes to Beyoncé’s twin pregnancy announcement, made with a lush floral photo by the artist Awol Erizku, which has received more than 11 million likes since it was posted on 1 February. A little art direction goes a long way.
