Public moulds Katy Perry's features (and they like it)

The Swiss artist Urs Fischer has turned pop songstress Katy Perry into a giant sculpture which members of the public can mould and manipulate. Perry’s huge head, on show at a pop-up space on 39 Spring Street in SoHo, Manhattan (Bliss, until 31 December), was made to mark the launch of the singing superstar’s latest album, Witness. “Perry envisioned the unguarded pose, and he [Fischer] conceived of a massive figure cast in white plasticine—a soft and malleable non-drying modelling clay—whose interior consists of a spectrum of brightly coloured modelling clay around a structural support,” says a spokeswoman from his studio. Visitors have subsequently shaped and gouged at the clay, transforming Perry’s pristine appearance into something altogether more abstract and vivid (almost makes you want to roar).
