The decisive vote for same-sex marriage in Australia sparked lots of supportive social media posts from the country’s museums and institutions who welcomed the historic decision (61.6% of people voted in favour in a non-binding postal vote). The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia in Sydney tweeted: “Australia voted YES! It’s official folks #loveislove”. The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne tweeted that “the NGV values being part of a community in which diversity and equality are respected”, adding a lovely picture of Robert Indiana’s Love (1966). The Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney also tweeted “Yes!”, along with the rainbow flag and a moving, momentous Robert Mapplethorpe image: Two Men Dancing (1984).
