After closing its space in the 18th arrondissement near the flea market last year, Untilthen is reopening on Boulevard Magenta, near the trendy Canal St Martin neighbourhood, on 9 September with a show of works by Melissa Dubbin and Aaron S Davidson.
The gallery is co-owned by Melanie Meffrer-Rondeau and Olivier Belot, who met working for Yvon Lambert. After Lambert closed his Marais gallery, the duo joined forces a few years later.
The choice of location is noteworthy because there are no other galleries on the road, although there is a cluster of galleries, such as Backslash, nearby on Rue Notre Dame de Nazareth. “Our main focus is to avoid following a trend and to bring people to see art in unexpected places,” says Belot, while Meffrer-Rondeau says, “Being the only gallery in the area helps us believe that our visitors can spend more time here.”The gallery will not be visible from the street and is intended to be “just like a house where Olivier and I are the hosts,” she adds.
