The new $1.5bn Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, which opened on 26 August, is the home of not only Atlanta United FT and the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, but also a massive falcon sculpture in stainless steel. It greets the flocks of visitors at the main entrance of the stadium, which is due to host of the 2019 Super Bowl. The bird, made by the Hungarian sculptor Gábor Miklós Szőke, has travelled all the way to Atlanta from its native Budapest in 1,000 pieces, and was put together on-site. But, weighing over 30 tonnes, this bird is too big to fly, and came by cargo ship.
