The Dulwich Picture Gallery is launching a summer pavilion in the mould of the Serpentine Gallery’s long-running architecture programme. But unlike the latter’s flashy commissions by international names such as Zaha Hadid, the first Dulwich Pavilion has a local flavour. The young south London-based practice IF_DO beat 75 submissions with a proposal to build a 200-sq.-m structure of mirrored screens that pays tribute to Dulwich’s original architect, Sir John Soane. The pavilion, funded by the property developer Almacantar, will host events tied to the gallery’s bicentenary from 1 June until September.
