The accolade for the smallest national pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale (13 May-26 November) goes to the Pacific island of Tuvalu, which is under threat of being submerged by the sea. The Taiwanese eco-artist Vincent Huang will represent the minuscule state for the third time at the world’s most prestigious art exhibition. In 2015, Huang flooded part of the Arsenale exhibition space with water to draw attention to rising sea levels. This year, he is creating a “social sculpture” called the Global Interactive Programme that will focus on global warming—but will he make as big a splash this time around in Venice?
