Chocolate reigns at the Sculpture Center

There’s always much to love at the Sculpture Center in Queens, but at its 2 November gala held in Manhattan’s Rainbow Room, the associate director Ben Whine said he was most excited about a forthcoming show by the Congolese Plantation Workers Art League that will feature sculptures made primarily with cacao. One partygoer joined the conversation: “Chocolate sculpture?” he asked. “Oh yeah, there was a chocolate sculpture here last year, right? Where’s the chocolate sculpture this year?” Whine explained that art rather than a party feature was under discussion. “Well, there definitely was a chocolate sculpture or chocolate fountain here last year,” the partygoer insisted. “And it was awesome.” Honoree Isa Genzken was not able to make the party, but piped in via video—which then led to a screening of the last game of the World Series.
