The young, and the young at heart, were out in force to celebrate Apollo magazine’s power list of top 40 movers-and-shakers aged under 40. The event took place at the Ham Yard Hotel just off Piccadilly and was co-hosted by Sophie Macpherson.
This year it was the Asia Pacific region that was under scrutiny with the 37-year-old sound artist and composer Samson Young, who will represent Hong Kong at the 2017 Venice Biennale, snagging the No 1 spot. But the main excitement at last night’s bash—especially among the more youthful contingent—was the presence of the small but perfectly formed Kit Harington, who plays the smouldering Jon Snow in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, along with his partner and Thrones co-star Rose Leslie, who also swept the floors as a housemaid in the BBC’s Downton Abbey.
Also among the throng were the ever youthful Whitechapel Gallery director Iwona Blazwick and a very frisky Nicholas Logsdail, who was especially pleased to see a large Tony Cragg sculpture outside the venue. However, Logsdail became less delighted when he discovered it had not in fact been sold by his gallery. There were more shenanigans with the two global art fair directors Niru Ratnam of Start, which opens next week, and Nathan Clements-Gillespie of Art 16, indulging in a spot of playful sparring in front of a provocative neon “Freak Show” sign… All in all, an energetic start to the onslaught of the autumn art season.
