To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Anderson Ranch Arts Centre in Snowmass Village near Aspen, Colorado has been bringing artists, curators and critics together for its annual Summer Series programme of workshops, panels and lectures. The featured speakers this year include Carrie Mae Weems, Thomas Houseago, Titus Kaphar, Liza Lou, Alex Prager, Charles Ray, Ann Philbin and Jerry Saltz, who will all “address important topics in contemporary art”, said Nancy Wilhelms, the art centre’s director. Up next, the Hammer Museum’s director Ann Philbin is in conversation with the artist Charles Ray on 2 August, the photographer and filmmaker Alex Prager is to speak about her pop culture influences on 4 August, and the contemporary craftsmen the Haas Brothers discuss their collaborative practice on 11 August. Meanwhile, the annual art auction and community picnic on 6 August is the Anderson Ranch’s largest fundraiser of the year, with more than 200 works of art donated by artists, collectors and galleries on offer, as well as public events, music and lunch at the ranch.
