Art Cologne shifts to avoid Berlin clash

Germany’s leading art fair Art Cologne has moved forward a day to avert a clash with the popular Berlin Gallery Weekend in 2017. Daniel Hug, the director of Art Cologne, says the decision will allow visitors to fit both events “comfortably in the same week”. Art Cologne’s preview will now be on Tuesday 25 April and the fair will run until Saturday 29 April. Berlin Gallery Weekend opens on Thursday 27 April and runs until Sunday 30 April. A spokeswoman for Berlin Gallery Weekend says the move is a “good compromise” but that smaller Berlin galleries may “still find the two-day overlap hard to manage”.
