Belly laughs—at an art festival

This year’s Festival de l’histoire de l’art—a French art history festival for professionals and amateurs, held in Fontainebleau southeast of Paris—has a rather funny theme: laughter. A comic element underpins some of the events taking place between 3 June and 5 June, covering topics like caricatures and jest in religious art through round-table discussions, exhibitions, tours of the town's famous Renaissance château and concerts. Spain is the invited country for this sixth edition of the festival, which is organised by the ministry of culture, the Institut national d’histoire de l’art (national art history institute) and the château of Fontainebleau. Last year’s festival drew around 34,000 art history lovers. For more information on the (droll) programme, go to: http://festivaldelhistoiredelart.com/
