Fashion meets tech at the Met Gala

The Metropolitan Museum of Art rolled out its red carpet for fashion A-listers and other assorted bigwigs who arrived styled to within an inch of their lives for the famous annual Gala Benefit on Monday night. Celebrity highlights included Beyonce in latex by Givenchy, and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West both in fetching outfits by Balmain. Under Vogue editor Anna Wintour's leadership, the ultra-glitzy gala event has become the Met Costume Institute's most visible and lucrative fundraising event. This year's gala, which celebrated the opening this week of the institute's fashion-meets-tech-meets-handmade exhibition Manus x Machina (5 May-14 August), set a record with $13.5m raised. Celebs x frocks = ka-ching.
