Prog is returning to Pompeii, with the announcement that the Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour will perform there this summer (the British group’s 1971 gig at the ancient site went down in music history, after being filmed in a ghostly, empty amphitheatre). “Agreement reached. After 45 years, David Gilmour will play again at Pompeii on 7 and 8 July,” tweeted Italy’s culture minister, Dario Franceschini. Pop superstar Elton John is due to strut his stuff at the site just a few days later, on 12 July; let’s hope the fragile foundations can withstand all this rock’n’roll.
