The Auction Houses

• Oliver Barker and Mario Tavella have been appointed co-European chairmen of Sotheby’s, joining Philipp Württemberg, who has been chairman in Europe since 2011.

Barker and Tavella both joined Sotheby’s in the early 1990s.

• Alice Trier has joined Phillips as a 20th-century and contemporary art specialist and will be a regional representative for Germany. Trier moves from Kunsthaus Lempertz, an auction house in Cologne, where she was a specialist in the Modern art department.

The Fairs

• The Miami Beach fair Untitled, Art is launching a second edition in San Francisco. Untitled, San Francisco will take place between 13 and 15 January 2017 at Pier 70 in the city’s arts district in the regenerated Dogpatch neighbourhood.

• Fotofever, Paris (11-13 November), has appointed Lucile Corty as its artistic director. Corty is the founder and director of Corty Contemporary, a gallery dedicated to emerging art, in the Marais quarter of the city.

The Galleries

• After 23 years at its Copperfield Road location, Matt’s Gallery is moving to Decima Street, Bermondsey in south London, where it will open this summer. The space will be temporary—the gallery hopes to move to a permanent, 9,000 sq. ft site in Nine Elms on the South Bank by 2020.

• Johannes Vogt Gallery has announced that it will be moving to 55 Chrystie Street in Chinatown, New York.

Other news

• The German video art collector Julia Stoschek is opening a satellite exhibition space in Berlin to complement her private museum in Düsseldorf. The new gallery will be in the former Czech cultural centre in Mitte.

• Sharon Grob, a luxury asset expert, has joined the art financing company Falcon Fine Art. Grob was recently named by the London business newspaper City AM as one of the 100 “most powerful women in the city”.
