Galleries • Brazil’s Galeria Nara Roesler has opened a New York viewing space on West 28th Street, its first space outside Brazil. The move makes it the first Brazilian gallery to open in New York City.
• The Elizabeth Dee Gallery is moving from Chelsea, New York, to up-and-coming Harlem, taking over the 12,000 sq ft. former first home of the Studio Museum, on Fifth Avenue, between 125th and 126th streets.
• After receiving a seven-figure cash injection from the Qatari businessman Wissam al-Mana, London’s Lazarides Gallery is relocating from Fitzrovia to the more upmarket Mayfair.
• Alan Cristea Gallery is relocating to “bespoke, better-suited premises”, at 43 Pall Mall, London, after 21 years in Cork Street.
• Craig Burnett has joined Blain Southern as director of exhibitions, having previously worked at Tate Modern, White Cube and Sprüth Magers.
• The Italian gallery Massimo De Carlo is set to open a space in Hong Kong, in the city’s famous Pedder Building, just before Art Basel Hong Kong (24-26 March), and another in the historic Palazzo Belgioioso, in Milan, scheduled for early April.
• The antique dealers Mallett has put its New York and London premises up for sale as the business “no longer needs to operate from prestige premises”, according to its chairman George Bailey. Levy Real Estate, which is marketing the London property—Dover Street’s Ely House—is said to be looking for a seven-figure sum.
• The longtime San Francisco photography dealer Jeffrey Fraenkel is opening an additional 1,200 sq. ft space with Frish Brandt, FraenkelLAB, in the Hayes Valley neighbourhood of San Francisco, on 14 April.
• The Manhattan dealer Franklin Parrasch now has an outpost in Los Angeles, a 5,000 sq ft. space near the Los Angeles galleries of Maccarone and Venus. “I’ve been featuring LA artists since the 1980s,” Parrasch says. He has joined forces with Chris Heijen; their new space is called Parrasch Heijen.
Auction houses • Melanie Clore, the co-chairman worldwide of Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern art department and chairman of Sotheby’s Europe, has left the auction house after 35 years; her next move is not known.
• Ellanor Notides and Capera Ryan have been named deputy chairmen of Christie’s Americas.
Fairs • Photo Paris Los Angeles has cancelled this year’s fair, scheduled for 29 April-1 May, citing a lack of sales.
• Katerina Gregos is leaving Art Brussels, after four years as artistic director, to pursue curatorial activities. She will still oversee the forthcoming edition of the fair (22-24 April).
Artists • Marc Quinn is no longer with White Cube, the gallery that has represented him since it first opened in a tiny space in Mayfair in 1993. A spokeswoman for the gallery wished Quinn “every continued success”.
• The London-based Modern Art gallery now represents the French-born, London-based artist Nicolas Deshayes.
