A cross-party parliamentary committee set up by France’s National Assembly will focus on the country’s standing in the international art market, and why France is not gaining ground on its rivals. The task force will examine the influence of Middle Eastern and Asian private collectors on the market, as well as the impact of money laundering on the sector, according to our sister paper Le Journal des Arts. The committee is led by Michel Herbillon, a member of the centre-right party Union for a Popular Movement. Its findings will be published in the autumn.
Meanwhile, the Paris Beaux-Arts antiquities-to-contemporary art fair that held its first edition in April 2015 has confirmed it will not host a second edition. A spokesman for the fair’s organiser, the Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA), says the decision was made in view of the fact that the Biennale des Antiquaires fair, also organised by the SNA, has since become an annual event.
