A German collector and medical technology billionaire has hired the British architect David Chipperfield to restore and develop a masterplan for a former brewery turned cultural complex in central Berlin. Hans Georg Näder bought the 19th-century Bötzow Brewery in 2010. The venue already hosts art exhibitions, including one on Neo Rauch (until 15 March). The €250m project, due for completion by 2019, will include a 2,000 sq. m gallery space. “The gallery will be completed as part of the last construction phase,” says Ulrich Goertz of Chipperfield Architects Berlin. Funding is coming from Näder’s company, Ottobock.
