A portrait of the former deputy prime minister and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has been unveiled in the UK Parliament. Clegg praised the artist, Brendan Kelly, for capturing “such an unnervingly accurate portrayal”. The MP then added: “What was even more unnerving was that that when I first saw it and remarked how pale and tired I looked, my assistant pointed out that he had captured me perfectly.” Clegg served as deputy prime minister in David Cameron’s coalition government, from 2010 until last May. Kelly shows the politician in his studio, emerging from a thick impasto background. Clegg, looking pensive, sports a tie, but no jacket, going for a semi-formal look. The portrait, commissioned for the Parliamentary Art Collection at a cost of £9,000, is now on display in Portcullis House, across the road from the Palace of Westminster.
