The US government received more than one million responses from museums, gallerists, antique dealers, animal rights activists and the public regarding a proposed revision of a law that deals specifically with ivory from African elephants. The proposal could “make art exhibitions somewhat poorer”, said Ian Wardropper, the director of New York’s Frick Collection, during a discussion hosted by the International Foundation for Art Research in November. The government may ban the acquisition or exhibition of works that are under 100 years old or more than than 20% ivory.
