Crowds flock to Yoko Ono’s Beijing debut

The first solo show in Beijing by the feminist art pioneer Yoko Ono attracted nearly 10,000 visitors during its first week. The Japanese-American artist performed her scream session A Voice of a Woman during the opening events of the show, Golden Ladders (until 3 July), which opened at the Faurschou Foundation on 15 November. “Golden Ladders is perhaps [a] more metaphoric work, [where] people are invited to bring their own golden ladders to include in the installation,” says the exhibition’s curator, Jon Hendricks. Many of Ono’s books have been translated into Chinese, and she has previously shown in Shanghai and Guangzhou.
