Subodh Gupta's foodie feats at Hauser’s rural space

The superstar Indian artist Subodh Gupta is not just an aesthete but a culinary whizz, too. The Delhi-based artist is showing works at Hauser & Wirth in Somerset early next year (Invisible Reality, 12 February-2 May), and we understand that he will also design an authentic Indian menu alongside head chef Steve Horrell at the gallery’s restaurant, the Roth Bar & Grill. “Dishes will be inspired by Gupta’s home region, but the artist is not actively taking part in the cooking. The opening will consist of an Indian buffet of finger food and small bowls of curry, Indian beers, mango and mint coolers,” says a spokesman for the gallery. Gupta is also planning a “celebratory” performance piece for the opening, involving wood, fire and audience participation.
