Georges Hugnet (1906-74) may not be a household name today, but the French poet, critic and artist was among the 20 Surrealists immortalised in Man Ray’s 1934 photomontage Surrealist Chessboard. Following the death of his widow earlier this year, Christie’s Paris is offering 278 lots from the couple’s collection on 1 December. Hugnet’s works on paper, his manuscripts and even some painted pebbles will feature, alongside gifts from his more famous friends, including Jean Cocteau, Pablo Picasso and Man Ray. Prices start at €80.
