The Louvre’s new education space will no doubt attract hordes of young museum fans (La Petite Galerie is aimed at seven- to 12-year-olds), but its opening show has raised eyebrows. Founding Myths: from Hercules to Darth Vader (until 4 July 2016) asks visitors to “ponder modern-day interpretations of myths and metamorphoses: from Jean Cocteau to Star Wars, Japanese manga to Fantômas”. But the French art critic Didier Rykner says that Darth Vader’s mask “does not deserve its place in the Louvre—not only because it represents contemporary culture, but also because it is linked to cinematography rather than visual arts”.
